Problems with vers 7-templates in 8?

Postby Jonas Nirfalk » Tue Aug 21, 2007 2:37 pm

Hi
I’ve been using crossword compiler for a while now, (vers 7) and just updated to version 8. I have a problem with my templates – they don’t show in the "Create New Puzzle" screen when I start my program. And when I double click in Windows it doesn’t know in which program it should open it. The mystery of it is, that when my technodude (i’m just a simple user) logged in with his admin-super duper rights he could open my templates and they also showed up in the "Create New Puzzle". I have full rights to the program-folder /Programs/Crossword Compiler" and anything in it, but it still doesn’t show.
I tried "Open with.." and choose "Crossword compiler", but that didn’t do me any good, either.
I tried to save a new template to see what happened, and I could do that. And It shows in the "Create...", but it don’t show in my folder window.
I have quite a few templates I use, so I’m greatful if I don’t have to do them over again, so if you can help me I will be most greatful.

Templates are saved on a per-user basis. To copy them between users you'll need to copy the files between the users' respective Templates subfolders under Application Data (your technodude will probably understand this).

Hi, I have the same problem, but do not undertand anything.
I have two maps:
CC 8 and
CC7
In CC7 there are a lot of other maps which are not in CC8.
for instance: Applett, Clue Databases, Puzzles, Templates etc.

Do I have to copy all this in map CC8? Or What?
Please, I do not have any who can help me. Ifthat s not possible, how can I use the version 7 as well as version 8?

To transfer settings from v7 to separate installation of v8 the easiest thing is to use the Backup and Restore menu items (Options menu). [this assumes you have version 7.1]

Otherwise go to the v8 Word List Manager (Words menu), see the Files menu and select the option to open the folder in Windows Explorer. This will show you where files are located in version 8.

Please, for you is everything very clear and easy!
I tried to do what you told me, but I was lost. What does it means "having CC7"?I had CC7 and it was overwritten with CC8. Can you, please, tell me step by step, what to do?

So: if I want to import or something the settings from CC7 what I have to do?

Please, your program is fine, but you have to understand I am only an user and have no idea how the background works.

Please, step by step!!!!

If, when you installed version 8, you chose to upgrade, you shouldn't have V7 still installed and all settings etc should be transferred automatically.

If you chose to do a separate installation of V8 then you may have two separate installations of the program, in which case you can use the Backup feature to move settings across (Backup in version 7, then Restore in version 8).

What did you do? What do you mean by "two maps"? Folders are in different locations in version 7 and 8.

Hi, thank you for your answer.
When I bought CC8, I was afraid (as I am on every new upgrades :-))
So I istalled it separately.
Now, I erased the new CC8 version an upgraded the CC7 with CC8.
And it is OK!
Thank you!
