It's rarely easy to keep track of which letters have been used while composing these puzzles. Ctrl+Shift+T will show me the current statistics but I can't see them and work on the puzzle at the same time. So far, I've found I have to use pen and paper to jot down which letters haven't been used, which have been overused etc.
Really useful would be an extra window, always visible, which shows the full alphabet and constantly refreshes to show, below each letter, the number of times it's been used in the grid - perhaps with unused letters shown in red?
An added bonus would be the ability to click on any letter in this window and be shown all instances of it in the grid. Sometimes, when a letter is under- or over-used, it's worth delving into the grid to see if there's a spot where a substitution can be made. Thus a highlighting feature would be a huge help. _________________ Anax in The Independent | Loroso in the FT | Some bloke in The Times |
